Westmead Redevelopment project director Carla Edwards last week presented at the 2018 Patient Experience Symposium in Sydney.
Carla shared the redevelopment's work with consumers and how their involvement has transformed the design of the central acute services building (CASB).
"By partnering with patients, carers and families, the design process of the new CASB has been greatly influenced by their needs and wishes, therefore improving future outcomes and experience at Westmead," Carla said.
Consumers have significantly transformed the design of the CASB - more than 60 per cent of the inpatient rooms in the CASB are single rooms with a dedicated carer zone.
Consumers have also had an impact on the plaza and main entry design, including entry points, reception placement and wayfinding.
Families and staff have also co-designed a carers retreat for those visiting the children’s emergency department and acute paediatric short-stay unit.
Well done Carla!
