The Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network (SCHN) Executive toured the site of the Kids Research Institute last week where construction activity is well underway.
The project involves the refurbishment of office and meeting room facilities and the construction of a new state-of-the-art Clinical Research Centre in the existing building. The first stage providing a flexible work environment for research staff will be completed next month making way for works on the Clinical Research Centre to commence.
Upon completion in early-2018 the Clinical Research Centre will be a purpose-designed, paediatric clinical trials and research facility— the first of its kind in New South Wales, and equal to facilities at leading paediatric hospitals internationally. It is anticipated that more than 1,000 patients will visit the centre annually. The trials conducted there will be varied. Some may only involve a few children who have extremely rare childhood diseases while others, like food allergy trials, or trials for vaccine preventable diseases, may involve several hundred children. These trials provide patients with a chance of improving their health and hopefully finding a cure for their condition.
The Network Executive were thrilled with the works completed on site so far and are excited to see the finished product.
