Performer Sean Choolburra at the launch of the legacy strategy

There is plenty happening around Westmead during NAIDOC Week.

NAIDOC Week runs from Sunday, 8 July through to Sunday, 15 July 2018.

This year’s theme is “because of her, we can!” celebrating the significant contribution that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have made to the community. Read more about the theme.

Westmead Redevelopment project director of redesign and transformation Carla Edwards said: “we recently launched our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legacy Strategy and Action Plan and would like to celebrate the contribution that many Aboriginal women have made during the development and implementation of this important document.

“We have had many conversations with female staff members, precinct partners, community members and Darug Elders. There is such resilience and strength shown by all the women we spoke with. Their insights, stories and knowledge directly influence our work, including the legacy strategy, and we will continue to tap into their knowledge.”

Local Darug artist Leanne Tobin is one of the many female community members who have shared their talents with the project team. Read about Leanne’s stunning artwork Dance of the Dragonflies. A colouring sheet celebrating her artwork will be launched in the lead-up to NAIDOC Week and will available at the events listed below. We will post it to our website site soon.

All staff and community members are invited to the events listed below. If you would like more information on any of these events, please contact us.

Visit the official NAIDOC Week website for more information and to view detailed about other events to be held around Australia.
