Queens Road option improves Westmead traffic flow
SHARE

Queens Road now allows motorists to turn left onto Hawkesbury Road to exit Westmead Health Precinct.

The change has been made to improve traffic flow as part of the one-lane one-way northbound loop to allow the continuation of major works for the Parramatta Light Rail project.

Motorists are now able to exit Queens Road onto Hawkesbury Road then turn right onto Darcy Road or continue on to the M4 and Parramatta (see map).

Other changes to improve flow include:

  • Increasing the timings of traffic lights on Railway Parade to allow more cars to turn onto Hawkesbury Road.

  • An additional traffic controller at the pedestrian crossing on Railway Parade to stop pedestrian movements when traffic lights are green.

The Hawkesbury Road loop – in operation until the end of 2021 - signals an important stage before tracks are laid and light rail stops constructed at Westmead Station, Westmead Hospital and The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.

Stage 1 of Parramatta Light Rail, expected to open in 2023, will connect Westmead to Carlingford via the Parramatta CBD and Camellia.
