One-way Hawkesbury Road loop signals light rail's next step
SHARE

Redevelopment around the Westmead Health Precinct will enter a new phase from 1 June when Hawkesbury Road is reduced to one lane one-way northbound to allow the continuation of major works for the Parramatta Light Rail project.

The works will make Hawkesbury Road – between Darcy Road and Bridge Street – a one-way loop until the end of 2021 (see full map).

Drivers exiting Westmead Hospital onto Hawkesbury Road will need to turn left before turning right on either Caroline, Jessie or Hainsworth streets and completing the loop on Park Avenue and Railway Parade.

Access from Railway Parade is then available towards Darcy Road by turning right on Hawkesbury Road or towards the M4 and Parramatta by turning left on Hawkesbury Road.

There will be no impact to hospital drop-off at the main entrance where drivers can still choose to enter and exit on Darcy Road.

Safety remains paramount for patients, visitors and staff, therefore traffic controllers and directional signage will be in place to assist with pedestrian or vehicle access.

These Hawkesbury Road works signal an important stage before tracks are laid and light rail stops constructed at Westmead Station, Westmead Hospital and The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.

Stage 1 of Parramatta Light Rail, expected to open in 2023, will connect Westmead to Carlingford via the Parramatta CBD and Camellia.
