Staff from Westmead Hospital's gastroenterology ward and the Westmead Redevelopment project team

Staff from Westmead Hospital’s gastroenterology ward (A3A) celebrated the opening of the newly refurbished ward in the sweetest way – with cake!

Staff gathered in the new-look ward on October 18 for an official cake cutting, marking the completion of renovations in the space.

Registered nurse Zealeasha Bali said she noticed the new ward was very spacious.

“The environment we are working in has really created a positive atmosphere,” she said.

“This is a great place to work alongside the team and my colleagues. For the patients, it’s really clear where they move to, sit or receive treatment.”

Clinical nurse specialist Rocela Munoz agreed, saying the staff loved the new space.

Congratulations to nursing unit manager Lucia Labib and her team, along with all the gastroenterology clinical staff – thanks for all your input in the planning process and your hard work in ensuring the relocation ran smoothly.

The planning process for the new space incorporated extensive feedback from the ward staff.

The new 16-bed ward and new gastroenterology day centre for outpatients is part of the Westmead Hospital refurbishment program, delivered through the Westmead Redevelopment.

Both spaces welcomed their first patients last week.

More than 30 per cent of clinical areas at Westmead Hospital will be refurbished through the redevelopment.
