The Westmead Redevelopment team marked National Carers’ Week at Westmead Hospital and The Children’s Hospital at Westmead by showcasing what the new hospital building will offer carers, patients and visitors when it opens in 2020.

Project team staff were on-hand to distribute merchandise and talk to visitors, patients parents and staff at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead’s galleria and Westmead Hospital’s main entrance about the exciting spaces for carers and visitors, as well providing information generally about the $1 billion infrastructure project.

Of particular interest to Bligh Park parents Julie and Aaron Barnett were the carer zones, located within patient rooms, allowing mum or dad to stay the night with a child or a carer to stay with an adult patient.

“It’s a really great initiative,” Julie said. It’s really thoughtful that these considerations have been included in the planning.”

Also featuring in the new hospital building will be patient lounges, where the whole family can relax and be together, while a parent’s retreat includes a children’s playground, allowing siblings to play in a safe environment.
