The preferred route for stage 1 of the Parramatta Light Rail was announced last week. It has been announced that stage 1 will include a link from Westmead to Parramatta and on to Carlingford.
“The transformation at Westmead continues to gather pace, with a new light rail link reinforcing Westmead’s role as part of Australia’s booming city, Parramatta,” Danny O’Connor, chief executive Western Sydney Local District said.
“Parramatta Light Rail is an important addition to the transport mix at Westmead and supports our vision for Westmead as a liveable and workable health and education city that will continue to attract the best minds from across Australia and around the world.”
It is proposed that there will be 16 stops with services from early morning to late at night, every 7 and a half minutes throughout the day.
The Westmead Redevelopment project team are working with the Parramatta Light Rail team on the exact location of the stops along Hawkesbury Road. This is to ensure that the new drop off and entry areas, the light rail and the traffic flow are all seamlessly integrated.
“The light rail route connecting Westmead to greater western Sydney will have a profoundly positive impact on patients, families, visitors and staff of The Children’s Hospital at Westmead. The introduction of light rail further cements Westmead’s place as an innovative healthcare hub in New South Wales,” Dr Michael Brydon, chief executive Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network said.
Construction is expected to start in 2018 and be completed by 2023.
