Artistic community thrills committee with talent

More than 150 submissions have been received for the Westmead Redevelopment’s arts and culture program during the project’s call for artists.

The call to the artistic community is part of the redevelopment’s arts and culture strategy.

Westmead Redevelopment arts and culture co-ordinator Marily Cintra said: “our arts and culture advisory committee is thrilled with the response. We’ve had submissions from around Australia, including artists of all ages and from diverse cultural backgrounds.”

Submissions were received from professional and non-professional artists with talent in many art forms – portraits, sculpture, installations, digital technology, music, film and animation, and performances.

“We’ve heard touching stories within the process. Some artists have been patients here, or know someone who has received care at Westmead. Other artists are current or past staff. It’s been wonderful to hear these personal reasons, driving artists to use their talents,” Marily said.

The project’s arts and culture strategy will be unveiled in August 2018.

The strategy has been created in partnership with Western Sydney Local Health District, The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, the University of Sydney and Health and Arts Research Centre Inc.
