Westmead Hospital executive test out the lounges in the refurbished library.
Westmead Hospital Library re-opened its doors today, and staff and students are loving the refurbished space.
Westmead Hospital Library manager Linda Mulheron said: “we are so pleased to welcome staff, students and visitors into our new library today.
“The space is coming alive, with students already using the quiet study spaces and collaborative zone, and people borrowing books and enquiring about booking spaces.
“Thank you to everyone that has been patient while the library has been refurbished, particularly my wonderful library staff, and to everyone that contributed to the planning, design and construction process. Staff and students are very excited; the energy is high in the library today.”
Westmead Hospital executive received a tour of the space by library staff.
WSLHD chief executive Danny O’Connor said: “the new library embodies the spirit of innovation Westmead is known for. It is bright and fresh, the lay-out is smooth, and it is already becoming a hub of academic excellence and practical education.
“Thank you to all that collaborated to deliver what we see today.”
The refurbishment of the library represents the third major upgrade to shared education, training and research spaces at Westmead Hospital, following the nursing clinical simulation lab and the Westmead Education and Conference Centre.
WSLHD director of operations for the research and education network, Helene Abouyanni said: “all of these projects have been made possible through Westmead’s strong partnership with the University of Sydney.
“Our organisations will continue to work closely to provide the best possible environment for clinicians, students, patients and carers to be part of world-class, quality healthcare.”
Westmead Hospital Library has been upgraded by the University of Sydney, in partnership with Western Sydney Local Health District.
Key features of the new library include clinical exam and simulation rooms, a pathology tutorial room and diverse study settings with modern furnishings and plants, to create a welcoming space.
