Central Acute services building

A new hospital building is being constructed next to the existing Westmead Hospital and The Children's Hospital at Westmead.

Called the Central Acute Services Building (CASB), it will be purpose-built for services which manage severe injury or illness, urgent medical conditions, recovery from surgery and other critical and complex conditions.

The building is being planned with:

  • Emergency
  • Acute admissions
  • Intensive care
  • Operating suites
  • Cardiac Comprehensive Care Centre
  • Surgical wards
  • Medical imaging
  • Pharmacy
  • Sterilising services.

The Central Acute Services Building project also includes a new main entry and transit lounge for patients to wait in comfort when they are leaving hospital after treatment.

The building has been designed to enable future expansion.

We continue to consult with staff, patients and visitors about the design of the new services and facilities.
