Celebrating Aboriginal people’s connection to the stars and skies was the topic of a thought-provoking talk, given at Westmead ahead of NAIDOC Week 2018 (July 8 – 15). CSIRO astronomer Professor Ray Norris addressed a packed room on July 5, exploring the knowledge that Aboriginal people have shared with him on the sun, the moon and the stars. Legacy Strategy event video

A new event video has been released to celebrate the one-month anniversary of the launch of a new strategy, intended to close the gap at Westmead.

The Westmead Redevelopment project’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legacy Strategy and Action Plan was launched on Wednesday, 8 May 2018, in front of staff, community members, Aboriginal Elders and special guests, including Member for Parramatta Dr Geoff Lee.

The Westmead Connectivity Centre - a Multiplex Initiative

In February 2018, we opened the Westmead Connectivity Centre with Multiplex, a hub for collaboration and support, matching job seekers with providers, and creating genuine opportunities for the Western Sydney community. The centre was renovated by a group of 10 pre-vocational trainees. Watch the video to hear about their experiences on the job, and their aspirations for the future. On 27 November 2017 a $9.3 million teaching and learning centre, the Westmead Education and Conference Centre (WECC), officially opened at Westmead Hospital. It is the first major infrastructure collaboration between the University of Sydney, Western Sydney Local Health District, Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network and the $1 billion Westmead Redevelopment project.

Site preparation for new hospital building - July 2017

View the new time-lapse footage of the site preparation  underway at the Westmead Redevelopment. A building has been demolished to make way for the new central acute services building.

Key features of the new building include:

  • Two new emergency departments - one for adults and one for children
  • Operating suites with highly specialised technology and equipment
  • New Cardiac Comprehensive Care Centre
  • Expanded imaging, pharmacy and logistics
  • Comfortable, modern patient bedrooms
  • More spaces with natural light
  • Education, training and research areas and facilities

Multi-storey car park - July 2017

The opening of the multi-storey car park will represent the first major increase in car parking number at Westmead. It will consist of eight levels, with one below ground and 1250 new spaces. The car park will open in quarter four of 2017. This video is a bird's eye view of the construction work currently underway. University of Sydney announcement - 29 September 2016

The University of Sydney is strengthening its partnership with the Westmead precinct. The announcement of a $60m investment at Westmead will provide for new education facilities, upgrades to existing spaces, and a suite of new academic programs and initiatives. These facilities and programs will be delivered in partnership with Westmead Hospital, The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, and the research institutes at the Westmead precinct. Planning video

The Westmead Redevelopment has released a new planning video to celebrate the exciting work underway by hundreds of staff and consumer representatives.

The video includes a fun time-lapse video from a Project User Group (PUG) meeting. This meeting is one of over 20 PUGs that meet regularly to discuss; floor plans; refurbishments; information and communications technology (ICT); education, training and research; and much more. 

The video also includes a number of new artist's impression images of what the acute services building and Innovation Centre may look like.

Westmead Economic Study launch - 19 July 2017

On 19 July 2016 a launch event celebrated the launch of the Westmead Economic Study. This video is a recap of that day.

The Westmead precinct is known for its strong collaborations and the Westmead Economic Study highlights those unique features of the precinct. The study will help businesses identify the opportunities to work alongside some of the world’s pre-eminent scientists and clinicians with the most advanced research equipment available. Opportunities for investment are evident across health technology, allied health and innovation businesses, which are interested in linking with the precinct’s research, education and health developments.

Coverage of the 2016-2017 Budget announcement
