Car parking

A local, long term solution for the car parking at Westmead is being sought to reduce the need to park onsite and increasing the use of public transport.

Parking is at a premium on most hospital sites in metropolitan Sydney and parking costs at Westmead need to be equitable, but also sustainable.  We need to find the balance between investing in car parking and investing in health service delivery.

A campus-wide car parking plan is currently being developed in consultation with staff and users. It will consider the needs of staff, patients, visitors, emergency vehicles, on-call medical staff and other users.

More parking for Westmead

The long term plan for the Westmead Redevelopment is to ease parking stress by creating new car parking, working with Government to improve public transport and improving existing parking areas, roads and wayfinding.

The car parking solution is being jointly led by Western Sydney Local Health District, The Children's Hospital at Westmead and Health Infrastructure.

Maintaining parking during the Redevelopment

The project has committed to no net loss of car parking spaces during the Westmead Redevelopment.

One of the the first projects was the construction of an on-grade staff car park on the oval at Westmead to replace a staff car park needed for new buildings.

The oval car park accommodates more than 300 cars and construction began in 2015.
