Early and enabling Works

Over the next decade, Westmead is growing to serve the healthcare needs of close to two million people in western Sydney. As one of Sydney's busiest hospital precincts, we are maintaining services during our redevelopment. This means carefully staging projects so there is as little disruption as possible to patients, carers, staff and visitors.

What's Happening

The redevelopment of Westmead is transforming the iconic complex into an innovative, contemporary and integrated centre which will continue to deliver high quality healthcare for decades to come.

We're close to finishing the early and enabling works stage of the project, which will open up the site of the new acute services building as we commence our main works stage.

The early and enabling works project has also included demolition, roadworks, internal support service expansions and a critical upgrade of power, water, gas and other essential services to secure our infrastructure needs in the future.

Electrical upgrades have been completed to increase the reliability and capacity of the electrical supply for existing buildings and future developments on the precinct.

Your safety is important to us

Over the next decade, Westmead will grow to serve the health care needs of close to two million people in western Sydney.

With some of Sydney's busiest hospitals, we need to maintain services during our redevelopment and that means carefully staging projects so there is as little disruption as possible to patients, carers, staff and visitors.

Here's what you need to know:

  • While we will do our best to keep disruption to a minimum, there is inconvenience from time to time.
  • While we undertake work, it’s a good idea to leave a bit of extra time to get to your appointment.
  • Use public transport whereever you can.
  • Leave a bit of extra time to park or ask someone to drop you off and pick you up.
  • For your safety during redevelopment, please walk on marked paths only, follow any instructions from site staff and observe the safety signage.
  • Drive carefully on site – our speed limit on the precinct is 15km per hour.
  • We are keeping patients, carers, visitors, staff and workers safe by carefully managing the impact of construction using a best practice approach to manage truck movements, dust, noise, vibration and hazardous materials.
  • If you have any concerns during construction, please speak to a staff member or contact us on 1800 990 296.
