Building a virtual future

Our new Virtual Care Centre is becoming a reality!

The centre will provide purpose-built space for the virtualKIDS service - virtual healthcare that gives patients and families more choice, ensuring health care continuity for patients who are too unwell for an in-person appointment, who prefer the convenience of a virtual care appointment, or when COVID-19 restrictions are in place.

Thanks to Albert, Joseph and Xuewen from builders Renascent who are part of the team delivering our new centre.

Site Manager Albert said it's been great to contribute to a project that will directly benefit sick kids, and team member Joseph said they're "happy to come to work every day because we know this will make a big difference to staff and kids in the future".

The VCC will also act as a command centre for coordinating the hospital's COVID-19 response, and any future emergency scenarios.

The command centre (staffed by Patient Flow and the Disaster Coordinator) will support patient flow, hospital operations and emergency management functions, including nursing staff activities such as check-in for casual pool nurses and the Emergency Operations Centre check-in during disaster response activities.

In the meantime, strict site safety precautions are keeping staff, visitors and construction workers safe while we get on with the job.

The centre is expected to be completed in late 2021. Thanks to the team from Renascent for the sneak peek!
